The Baker family has made Colorado its home since 1937, when Harry and Mary Baker – along with 10-year-old Lloyd -- left their native Missouri to become part of the “Dust Bowl” pioneer movement. Lloyd grew up in several small Colorado communities, served briefly in both World War II and the Korean War, and after graduation from the University of Colorado, began a career in banking. He soon realized that insurance was his true passion, and in 1958 established his first insurance agency in Boulder.

Lloyd’s son Rick, and his four daughters, learned the importance of the family business when the telephone would ring during dinner during damaging wind or hailstorms, and Lloyd would head back to the office to provide the service that his clients required.

Rick started his career with Baker & Associates in 1984 and stayed with the agency when Lloyd sold the business in 1986. Realizing that he shared a passion for insurance with his father, Rick soon stepped out into his own and started his own agency. He was joined by Carolyn Gapter, who had worked for Lloyd for more than 15 years and provided valued continuity. Carolyn retired after working for Rick for 16 years. Rick always said that Carolyn did the work of three people and was considered a member of the family.

Newer additions to the agency family are Cheryl Campbell, the office manager who took over for Carolyn in 2012. Says Rick of Cheryl, “I have not seen a better insurance agent than Cheryl in my 35 years in the industry. My grandmother always said she was blessed with good neighbors, and we were always blessed with wonderful people working here in the agency.”  Rounding out the team is Rick’s son Ethan, who is continuing the family legacy.

Rick Baker Insurance has grown in tandem with the Colorado Front Range over the past three decades, while maintaining the personal touch that has characterized the Baker legacy for twice that time. Today, Rick Baker Insurance has grown into the second largest Chubb agency in Colorado and provides services to satisfied customers in another 36 states.
